After much hard work and careful consideration, we are proud to launch Kato’s first A-2 flight jacket, The Propeller.
Emerging during World War II as a replacement for the A-1 jacket, the A-2 has become an iconic symbol rivaling the motorcycle jacket. As the war ended and pilots returned home, they wore their flight jackets as symbols of honor, catching the eyes of figures like Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra. Once it was popularized in films, this style became synonymous with masculine cool.
Our version of the A-2 adds our own twist on the classic details. The Propeller features exclusive custom vintage-style large zippers made by Universal. We removed the classic knitted wristlets and waistband to give the jacket a sharper, longer line, and modern feel. Cat-eye buttons on the pockets and wrists are secured with our distinctive Kato Orange thread.
Employing advanced weaving and production techniques, we've created a distinctive knit fabric that mimics the appearance and texture of suede. Incorporating a knit structure allows for a touch of stretch, ensuring a wide range of motion, a feature unattainable in traditional suede.
